Blind Date
Did a co-worker set you up with a friend of theirs because they thought you were compatible and cute together? Did you finally try one of the many popular and successful online dating sites and are about to meet them for your first date?
You my friend are about to venture out on a blind date and we’re here to teach you how to survive a blind date. Who knows, you also might get to date #2 by following our advice.
1. Meet for lunch. Whether it’s a blind date or not, you should always have your first date at a restaurant during your lunch break from work. Why is that you ask? If things go horribly wrong you have the excuse that you need to get back to work before your boss gets upset with you. Awesome escape route!
2. Keep the conversation light. Do not present your entire life in the first 10 minutes of meeting your blind date. Keep the conversation light and only reveal the kind of information you would share with a complete stranger. Trust me, no one wants to hear your deepest secrets and all the things going wrong in your life. And remember, stay away from talking politics and religion on your blind date!
3. Be a good listener. If you’re talking for more than 30 seconds at a time, then you’re talking too much. Take a breather and let your blind date participate in the conversation. It’s not all me, me, me. Relax and be a good listener.
4. Don’t talk about your job. Don’t talk too much about your job. This first blind date is about getting to know the person, not your job and all the things you hate or love about it. Let them get to know you.
5. Dress appropriately. You often hear women complain that their blind date stares more at their breasts than their eyes. This is often caused by the woman wearing a low cut top or something too revealing. Don’t dress too seductively ladies, keep it simple and leave a little something for the guys’ imagination. Guys listen up. Don’t dress too casual. Keep it business casual or a clean pair of jeans with a nice polo shirt.
A few other tips
- Make sure someone knows where you are and when you should be returning
- If it’s not a lunch date and alcohol is involved, don’t drink too much!
- Be polite at all times. If you get on a topic that you totally disagree upon stay calm and polite. (Then remember why we said meet for lunch)
